| My name is Sahar Husseini. I was born totally blind, but I was always intrigued by colors and the energy they emanate. When I began to design and make beaded jewelry, I was able to increase my understanding of colors and learn how to manipulate them.
I was born in Jerusalem in 1970. I came to the United States when I was eighteen years old. At first, I went to Grossmont College, a community college in San Diego. In 1991, I went to San Diego State University, where I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in social work. I got my first job in the Fall of 1997, where I taught computers and provided counseling to blind individuals at the Alaska Center for the Blind in Anchorage, Alaska. That's where I started my love for designing beaded jewelry.
I always loved jewelry, but I didn't know I could make it until I was almost 29 years old. On Easter Sunday, April 9, 1999, the beader in me was born and I began to create jewelry. A friend thought that I could create jewelry, and I did not. We sat at her dinner table, and she put some beads in front of me. Once I started, I could not stop beading.
In July 2001, I left Anchorage and came to Lincoln to work for the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, where I am teaching computer and providing counseling at the Nebraska Orientation and Adjustment Center for the Blind. It is wonderful to see people learn the different alternatives of blindness and start to believe that they can become independent, productive members of society.
I work an 8-5 job, and after work, I design beaded jewelry to relax. I especially love working with gemstones and sterling silver. My favorite jewelry pieces to make are necklaces and bracelets. I enjoy using different textures and types of beads. Each item is one of a kind. I am what you call a bead addict, and I am always looking for new shapes and different looks. There is always a shape or style of bead that I do not have and must get!
I mainly specialize in semi-precious beaded gemstone jewelry. The gemstones are usually mixed with pewter or sterling silver. I also use other materials to make my jewelry such as glass, bone, brass, copper, Gold-plated, and silver-plated metal. On this site, I indicated the material of which each piece was made. I hope you enjoy my art work, and know that I put a piece of me in everything I create.
I collected information about the gemstones I use. Click or enter on the specific gemstone to find further information under properties. Even though I am listing some metaphysical and healing properties of the various gemstones, they are meant for entertainment purposes only. I claim no medical knowledge of any kind. I personally believe that gemstones and colors do have some energy, and I know that I like working with specific gemstones more than others. I also have gemstones that I work with for a period of time only to leave them for months on end. I went to various Web Sites in search of information about the properties of gemstones, and I referenced each Web Site I used. I hope you enjoy reading the material I collected.
Recently, I was interviewed by two Nebraska TV Stations. If you would like to view the videos, please click or enter on the links below. Please remember that video files are fairly large and may take some time to load, especially if you are using Dial up.
